Moore’s Country Store has been a “Family Tradition since 1926” and an active participant in the Concord, Virginia community and the surrounding area since it was started during the depression. There are so many stories that are shared about the different ways Moore’s has been in someone’s life or the changing face of Moore’s as it has evolved through time.
There once was an apartment over Moore’s where Herman and Della Moore, the original proprietors lived. The apartment was later rented to various folks in the area. The children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are now customers. Every year throughout the year, people from all over stop by Moore’s as they travel US 460 as part of their traditional trip. It is fascinating and humbling to meet people that have been coming to the store for so long and are just as excited as we are for our growth and success.
Over the years, Moore’s had grown to six locations throughout the Lynchburg area. They operated as a "restaurant with fuel and convenience items. The stores provided not only the traditional American fair of delicious, fresh ground beef burgers, their World Famous Hot Dogs, and crispy fried chicken, they also provided homemade meals and fed 100s of people every day. One day, you may have found freshly cut Fried Pork Chops and Homemade Mashed Potatoes and the next hand-pattied Salmon cakes, with house-sliced Fried Potatoes. They offered a variety of vegetables and sides, like their hand-cut potato wedges and desserts.
In June 2022 the family sold 5 of their locations and went "back to their roots" of operating only the original store found on Richmond Highway. With the sale of the 5 locations, they partnered with the purchaser and have been able to expand their brand, Moore's Original Hot Dogs, throughout Lynchburg, VA and the surrounding area. They now offer, not only their Moore's Original Hot Chili (made with turkey burger for their Alpha Gal customers), they offer a Southern Style Beef Chili, no heat at all.
The original location, Moore’s at Mt. Athos offers Dine In or Take Out and you can order right here on this website. They also carry Jellies and Butters, a variety of Salty Dill pickles, Dave's Insanity sauce, Green and Red Pepper Jelly, Chow Chow and different types of hard candies and more.
